Hi Church,

The season of Advent is right around the corner. Beginning this Sunday and leading us to Christmas this is a season of anticipation, preparation, repentance, and increasing joy. Darrell Johnson, referencing the old Andy Williams song "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," names this season as truly "full of wonder." Wonder at God's love and glory, at the majesty and mystery of the incarnation. 

There are a number of resources to help you journey through this season. At COTC our worship will be shaped by readings, songs, and rites geared toward the themes of this season. Additionally, evening prayer and the parish quiet day on the 15th are opportunities to be still, quiet, and to wait upon the Lord. Lastly, Wednesday mornings through Advent we'll be having morning prayer at 7am at the Parish House. 

In addition to these times in our corporate life, you might consider booking time with myself or Paul to pray, or to confess your sins. The Johnson book quoted above is a wonderful resource. At the start of this church year you might also consider a calendar from Modern Liturgic as a way to keep time with the church, moving through the Gospel story. Marking the start of this season, as well as our first Sunday as young church plant three years ago, we'll be having a chili cook-off this Sunday following worship! Bring your best chili and capture a prize! Dessert and drinks will be provided, there will be yard games, and we'll party! Bring a friend. If you are cooking chili be sure to bring it in something to keep it warm (e.g. crockpot, we'll have plenty of places to plug-in), a ladle for serving, and any condiments (sour cream, cheese, etc) required. If you're not bringing chili please bring a side, like salad or cornbread.
