Living in the Light
“Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” - Ephesians 5:8-10
With its focus on Jesus as the light of the world, the season of Epiphany relates to the unveiling of Jesus’ glory and goodness for all nations, all people to see. The revealing of Jesus’ glory and goodness has implications for our own lives as His followers and as the people of God. Living in the light of who Jesus is has implications for how we live.
Over these next three weeks, our sermons will focus on passages from 1 Corinthians 6, 7, and 8. These readings are from the church’s lectionary (the schedule of readings for Sunday worship) and pertain to some of the most important and complicated areas of life: our bodies and sexual morality, the way we relate to others and questions of justice, and, finally, notions of true and proper worship.
The topics that these texts lead us into are complex. Since Jesus is the light of the world, his goodness and glory have implications for the whole of life, even those areas that are challenging or difficult to understand. Light spreads and fills space. It touches on every surface and part. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live entirely in the light.
Over these coming weeks may God use these sections of 1 Corinthians to illuminate our lives, and, by the Holy Spirit, draw us more fully to live in the light of Christ.
Important Note: As part of our diocese's ongoing work to foster church culture that honors and protects us all as bearers of God’s image, all church volunteers are required to complete training related to the prevention of sexual harassment. If you volunteer in any capacity at COTC, you are required to:
Watch this training video.
Once you have watched the video, take this quiz.
After taking the quiz, complete this form, confirming you have completed the training.
Training needs to be completed by 1/31/24. Please contact Kimberly with any questions. Thank you!
In Christ,
