CELEBRATING BAPTISM
“ ...one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” – Ephesians 4:5-6
This Sunday we again have the privilege of celebrating the baptism of several in our community. Marshall Miller, Ellaiden Margrave, and Betsy, Evelyn, and Andrew McIntosh will all receive the sacrament of baptism as a sign of God’s faithfulness to them through Jesus Christ. We will welcome them into the company of Christ’s people and commit to play our part in supporting them as they grow and live into their identity as those baptized in Christ.
Additionally, for those of us who have already been baptized, this Sunday will present us with an opportunity to remember and recommit ourselves to the vows of our baptism. We have the opportunity to again renounce the empty promises of the world and the forces of evil, and to freshly affirm our faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, our acceptance of the faith handed down to us and revealed in Scripture, and our commitment to follow Jesus on the way of the cross in obedience to God.
Finally, for those of us who have yet to be baptized, this Sunday presents an opportunity to consider again if the time is approaching when we too might turn to God in Christ in this way and be baptized ourselves.
Following the service, we’re going to celebrate by having a picnic together on the field outside the Phillips Event Center. Bring a picnic for you and your family, or join together with some friends. The hospitality team will provide drinks and dessert! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will have the picnic indoors!
I hope you can be there to celebrate with us this Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Peter+
