All Hail King Jesus

Hi Church!

We had a wonderful weekend this past week, didn’t we? Thanks to everyone who came out to participate in the retreat, and to those who served to make it happen! A particular highlight for me was our time in prayer together on Saturday evening; it was rich with a sense of God’s presence and prompting as we prayed for our community to embody the Gospel, for loved ones who are far from the Lord, for those with the trauma of past wounds in the church, and for our own hearts to be quickened in faith and obedience to God.

Regardless of whether or not you were able to attend the retreat it would be super helpful for planning our next Parish Retreat if you could take few minutes to complete this survey here. Thanks!

We also gathered on Sunday and made lament a part of our worship. It’s been a somber and beautiful thing to pray with you the laments you offered up to the Lord and left on the altar on Sunday. Thank you for participating in this act of trust in the Lord. Check out the images used in the slide show, some by COTC artists, here

Moving from the laments of last week, we move now to the final Sunday of the church calendar this coming week, the Feast of Christ the King. As the culmination of the church year, this Sunday is all about proclaiming Jesus as Lord of all creation, and Lord of our lives.

That we are coming to the end of the church year also means that Advent is right around the corner. Advent is a season of waiting and preparation as we begin another journey through God’s story of salvation. If you’re interested in following along with the church year you might consider purchasing a calendar from Modern Liturgic here, or this Christian Seasons Calendar. There are many wonderful resources for entering into Advent and the Christian year more generally, these two are great for the “re-ordering of time around the story of God’s mission to the world in Jesus Christ.”

In Christ,

Peter+

Ps. This Sunday we’re also back at it with Coffee and Catechism and our examination of spiritual practices. Fr. Nick will be leading this time as we look at Scripture memorization. This seems especially pertinent in light of some of what we talked about regarding an imagination saturated in God’s word, come learn about a way to be formed in God's Word!
