Strengthen Your Love This Lent

"Let us praise Jesus, the washer of feet."

At the core of following Jesus is love for Jesus. Out of our love for Him we obey, we worship, we live on mission. God’s Spirit working in us, engenders love for Jesus, and love animates a life of following in Jesus together as the church. Love for Jesus is at the core.

The season of Lent is an opportunity to strengthen this love. In fasting we disengage from those things or practices, good and lovely as they may be (chocolate!), that may be rival loves. In practices of engagement, like prayer, silence, or solitude, we deliberately attend to the One who has captured our affections. Even in generosity or the giving of alms, a traditional part of Lenten practice, we confess the truth that He is move lovely even than wealth, and cultivate a love for things more eternal than what money can buy.

Jesus is worthy of our love. This season is an opportunity to strengthen love for Him who is worthy of it. Love that animates the life for which we were made, for which we desire.

There are a whole number of resources for this season. Including those for families and children. As we move through various Psalms in the weeks of Lent an exciting resource by our own David Taylor, is coming out on the Psalms. I love the way this book encourages us to bring the whole of our lives and all our emotions before the Lord. One very cool feature of David’s new book are these prayer cards, designed by Phaedra. Check them out, and join me in praying for this book to bless and encourage many in their faith.

Eager to walk this season with you,

Peter+

Ps. During this season we’ll be reading Emotionally Healthy Spirituality together, and we’ll have copies available this Sunday. Be sure to grab one!
