Fall Kickoff!
Hi COTC,
It has been rich to journey through John 6 with you these past weeks. I’m looking forward to more in the coming weeks (it’s one of the longest chapters in the New Testament). This past Sunday we looked at Jesus’ walking on the water and the reality of doubt and skepticism. I referenced a few resources and wanted to share them here:
Books - The Reason for God, Making Sense of God, Arriving At Amen, The End of our Exploring, Proper Confidence, and Confronting Christianity
Podcasts - The Jude 3 Project, and one episode featuring the author of Confronting Christianity.
Remember, doubt need not be antithetical to faith, and our questions and challenges are often wonderful fodder for prayer and engagement with God. Jesus longs to be known by us, and can be met in our questions and struggles to trust.
This Sunday is our Fall Kickoff with worship at 9am and 11am. Following both services they’re be some cool refreshments and an opportunity to learn more about and get connected with community life in the season ahead. Join us! Invite a friend!
In a couple of weeks, on September 10th, we’ll be having our Annual Parish Meeting between worship services. This meeting is an opportunity for us to be reminded of God’s work among us over the past 12 months and look forward to the year ahead. There will be a budget report as our fiscal year begins September 1, and we’ll be voting for a new member to join the Parish Council. This year I’m excited that Lindsey Sandefur has agreed to let here name stand. You can read Lindsey’s bio here.
In addition to this normal business we’re also planning to update our church constitution to better reflect how are financial life is administered. The Parish Council is proposing some minor changes to one section of the constitution related to the role of the treasurer. You can find the existing language here in Sections 4.1, 4.42, 5.80 and 5.81 and the proposed change to the text here.
If you’re a member and you have any comments, questions, or concerns related to the Parish Council, this by-law update, or the meeting in general you can connect with me or a member of Parish Council.
Thanks for reading, and see you on Sunday!
In Christ,
Peter+
