Lent Together
Hi COTC Family!
The season of Lent is right around the corner, and there are various ways to engage. Be sure to check out how we are journeying with Jesus this season as a community. None of us follow Jesus on the way to the cross alone, and there’s a power in taking up rhythms and practices together.
Ash Wednesday is February 14th, which means the 13th is Shrove Tuesday, a day traditionally reserved for feasting. At the very least, it’s an excuse to eat breakfast for dinner. You might consider sharing your table this night as a starting point of togetherness for the season.
Neighborhood Groups have also started up again. Groups are one of the primary ways we express and experience our togetherness in Christ as a church. Check out the groups listed or contact Sarah to find out more. In my experience, group life is well worth the challenge.
It being February, the start of Lent also coincides with the end of Black History Month. There are simple ways to link Lenten practices to this month in the civic calendar. The Repentance Project has devotional material for engaging racial justice in this season. Several at COTC have used it over the years. Something as simple as reading this book by Anglican priest Claude Atchocould be a way to press in this season.
In whatever ways the Lord leads you to participate in the Lenten journey, my prayer is that these weeks will serve God’s good purposes in our lives, fashioning us more fully to be a people of use to the Holy Spirit for the glory of Jesus.
In Christ,
Peter+
Ps. One of the most basic ways we share life together can be through support in times of need. There are a number of COTC households with current care calendars. You can access one such calendar here, for the Land family.
