The God of All Comfort

Dear COTC Family,

This week Sarah, Kimberly, Krista and I have had the privilege of attending the C4SO Clergy Retreat. This is a time of togetherness, worship and prayer with other clergy from churches around the country. This year we’ve heard from Barbara Peacock and Steve Macchia, two gifted teachers regarding spiritual formation on the topic of soul care. Among other things their teaching has been a timely reminder of the priority of caring for our souls over other pursuits, as clergy, but also as followers of Jesus. As disciples we seek to extend care to others, this can only happen as we receive the care, refreshing, and renewal that Jesus offers.

Over the past weeks the phrase Paul uses in 2 Corinthians, describing God, as the “god of all comfort” has been on my mind and heart. I long for us to know the consolation of God. Many of us are in the midst of challenging life circumstances, may we know the Holy Spirit’s comfort and peace. Even beyond that, may we know the comfort of God’s active intervention in our circumstances providing, delivering, healing, and renewing. Jesus, our comforter, desires us to know the comfort he brings.

Two quick reminders. Our Parish Meeting is May 5th, between worship services, beginning at 10:15. Read up on our new PC candidate Steve Teng, here, and the updated constitution here

Join the “Living the Liturgical Year” seminar for Ordinary Time this Sunday during the 11am service. This is a great opportunity to lean in the gift of the church calendar, and shape your days and seasons according to the Gospel. There are always great ideas to glean about how to keep time with Christ in these gatherings.

Grace and peace,

Peter+
